Take a unique journey into Cuba’s culture through food and music!

Food and music. Two core aspects of any culture. In Cuba, where years of economic challenge have required the country to create sustainable agricultural practices, this small Caribbean island nation is the world’s leader in innovative methods. Food is the heart of every community in Cuba. From organic food production to ration cards to a burgeoning foodie scene, Cuba has hearty roots in its food culture. Equally important to Cubans is music. Cuba rhythms have origins from West Africa, brought over by slaves. Dizzy Gillespie put Cuban jazz on the U. S. radar, and Cuban music continues to evolve and permeate daily life. Both food and music are the backdrops for all Cuban communities, steeped in tradition and pride.

Where will we be staying?

Our comfortable accommodations will include a casa particular, (a bed and breakfast, part of the new private economic sector) in picturesque Old Havana, a UNESCO World Heritage site; and another casa particular B&B in Trinidad, an agricultural region on the Caribbean coast known for its tobacco, sugar, and music. Staying in private casas allows our group to experience Cuba first- hand and the new business opportunities, freedoms, and relationships that are part of the unfolding economic/social changes.

What about money in Cuba?

Cuba has two currencies—pesos for locals and convertible pesos (CUCs) for tourism. US dollars and Canadian dollars can be exchanged for CUCs. Contrary to misconception, Cuba is an expensive destination where US credit cards are not accepted and there are no ATMs. Bring enough cash for spending money throughout the trip.

Where will we depart?

Our group will depart for Cuba from Miami. You will be responsible for your flights to and from Miami. Please contact us for more specific information on arrival and departure times before making your travel arrangements.

How will we get around in Cuba?

Our group will travel by a private, air-conditioned mini-bus that will pick us up from our accommodations every morning. We will have the same expert driver and tour guide throughout the trip. We will be doing moderate levels of walking everyday to see the sites. Should you wish to venture out on your own during free time, there are classic American car taxis, coco cabs (moto taxis), and other commercial taxis.
