The next time you are in Kauai, we highly recommend that you try this amazing “doors off” helicopter tour of the island. Believe me, I had my doubts, but left the decision to my 14 year old daughter. We were the only two passengers and had the wind blowing through our hair and a full, unobstructed view of the incredible scenery of the Garden Island.
Our pilot, Fabricio, was excellent. He had a strong focus on safety, but was also a fun, insightful tour guide explaining everything we flew over. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience.
We started over the southern coastline and were quickly greeted by multiple waterfalls. A rainbow just added to our delight.
Soon, we were heading into the Waimea Canyon…the Grand Canyon of the Pacific! A helicopter is one of the best ways to see the canyon because it is so large (and a very long drive to get there).
Next we came to the breathtaking NaPali Coast. The pictures just don’t do the scenery justice. The view was spectacular. It is truly nature at its finest. The only other way to see the NaPali coast is by boat or by foot. There are no roads, so a helicopter is definitely the way to go.
Back to civilization, we flew over the quaint town of Hanalei and could see the beautiful tapestry of the taro fields below.
Mother Nature has a lot to do with what you will see during your helicopter tour in Kauai. Will it be a spouting whale off the NaPali Coast, a rainbow over a waterfall or a dip into a volcano crater? We were very lucky to see two of the three. Near the end of our trip, great weather and visibility were on our side and we got to fly into the Waialeale Crater, one of the wettest spots on Earth. It is usually covered in clouds, so we were very fortunate to be able to view this hidden gem with the emerald green walls, cascading waterfalls, and deep crevices…just spectacular. We enjoyed every moment of our adventure.
