Sitting at Il Bar, a rooftop cafe on the top floor of la Rinascente (a shopping mall, of course!) and looking at Milan’s Duomo, I was finally able to reflect on my first day in Italy. My arrival became unexpectedly fun when I met Afsoon on the train into the city. Even though she is an intrepid traveler from Germany, we bonded over being lost, and decided to start the day together over cappuccino and pastries.
Milan actually seems pretty compact, and we easily found and meandered through the upscale stores and indoor malls. To get a better view of the city I took the lift up to the top of the Duomo and clambered around the gargoyles, then walked through the old castle at the other end of Dante, a pedestrian street that connects the two.
So I’m ending the day early but satisfied that I had a little taste of Milan.
Hi Shelley!
I’m glad you arrived safely and enjoyed Milan. Thanks for the great pictures and descriptions. They made me remember some fun times there with our family in 2001. Have you shopped the Milan fashion? Looking forward to more posts and pictures and of course, when you get back, a full travelogue! Enjoy the spa and your next adventures.
Love,
Jeanne
Shelley,
I’m glad you are such a seasoned traveler that getting lost is an adventure rather than a tragedy. I loved your pictures of Milan and I hope that you bought yourself a souveneir, so you can exude your own European fashon when you get back to the states.
How was the NYCleg of your trip? Do anything new and exciting???
We missed you at Gonza’s and book club but i’m sure Milan was better than both of those put together.
I look forward to you next update/blog and catching up when you get home. Safe travels…
Ciao,
Love you,
Katherine
Looks beautiful. Glad you are having a good time. Can’t wait to see more.
