As your intrepid travel scout, I recently spent 4 days exploring Grand Bahama Island. One of our tour operators is offering some incredible packages, complete with non-stop charter air to the island. Could it be too good to be true? I have to admit, I went with some reservations.
So far, so good. The room was nice, and the grounds and pools were impressive. But I consider myself a foody and am not normally a fan of buffets. Can an all-inclusive pull off sushi?
Check. Very tasty sushi, and the steakhouse wasn’t bad either. The most surprising part for me was the delicious food on the buffets, which included local dishes like conk chowder.
But we couldn’t just relax with our frozen drinks on the beach – we had to explore the island! We decided the best way was on motorized bikes with CocoNutz. On a fun tour with the owner we were introduced to the best conk on the island at Tony Macaroni’s, where Tony himself taught us how to clean and eat conk…which was so good we came back the next night. It tastes even better with cold beer!
I’ve always wanted to swim with dolphins, but never liked the expensive tours offered at resorts. Here the Dolphin Experience was very special. It was less touristy, and more experiential and educational. They actually offer an opportunity to swim in the open ocean with dolphins, which would be an amazing experience.
Now is the time to book this awesome and easy escape. The charter air departs from Raleigh/Durham, NYC, Columbus, Richmond and Baltimore. I give it a thumbs up!
